We offer three types of session
Most of our children are between the ages of 3 to 5 years.
We also take 2 ½ year olds in our Ducklings sessions.
All sessions are carefully planned to provide
a variety of activities across the six areas of early learning
that match the developmental profile of the children that attend.
We offer 3 types of session (see details below) through which
children progress gradually as their confidence increases.
| | |
Ducklings: Between 2.5 years to approx. 3 years | Cygnets: Rising 3 years old up to starting school | Swans: Children who will start school in the following September. |
Parents are welcome to discuss with the staff how to
settle their children into the playschool setting.
All parents are now offered regular appointments
for an informal chat about their child's progress.
Age guidelines | Session overview |
Ducklings: Between 2.5 years and about 3 years | Our Ducklings sessions (Monday & Wednesday, 1pm - 3pm) are suitable for our youngest children.
These sessions are run with regard to the "Birth to Three matters" framework and are especially tailored to meet the needs of younger children. There is also a higher adult/child ratio and the sessions provide a gentle introduction into pre-school.
|
Cygnets: Rising 3 years until about 4.5 years old | Our Cygnets sessions (every morning, 9am - 12pm) are suitable for the majority of our children.
Each session is carefully planned to provide a variety of activities across the six areas of early learning. Morning sessions begin with register time - a chance to discuss the theme and share news as a whole group. Then there is time for the children to choose from a number of activities both indoors and outdoors. These include sand play, water play, painting, dressing up and role play as well as table top activities. We offer cookery sessions on a weekly basis and make use of our computer which is loaded with suitable software. Mid-morning the children gather together for snack time. They have a drink and share healthy snacks. Weather permitting, the children go outside to play either in the playground or the orchard, or they may go into the school hall for music & movement. This is usually followed by story time and an opportunity for "show and tell" when children talk about items they have brought in relating to the theme.

Swans: Children who will start school in the following September . | Our Swans sessions (Tuesday & Thursday, 12:15 - 3pm) are designed for our oldest children.
These sessions are run in a similar way to the mornings but are particularly suited to children who will be starting school the following September. Children bring a packed lunch to eat with their peers - an important social activity which helps them to prepare for school life. All children take part in a whole group activity at the end of each session, taking advantage of their increasing levels of concentration. |
